Mallorcan Laura Capó Rodríguez represents Spain at the WorldSkills World Championship

This international competition, held in Lyon, brings together 1,400 competitors from more than 70 countries.

Laura Capó is a student of Vocational Training in the health field at the Mossèn Alcover secondary school in Manacor.

Laura Capó Rodríguez is taking part in the Worldskills held in Lyon. The Mallorcan is representing Spain in these Vocational Training Olympics, now in their 47th year.

Mallorcan Laura Capó Rodríguez represents Spain at the WorldSkills World Championship

Laura Capó Rodríguez qualified for this international competition after winning the gold medal at the SpainSkills, which took place in April in Madrid. Laura is studying vocational training in the health field at IES Mossèn Alcover in Manacor.

1,400 competitors from more than 70 countries and regions have gathered in Lyon to compete in 59 professional families, related to Creative arts and fashion, Construction and building technology, Social and personal services, Manufacturing technology and engineering, Information and communication technologies, or Transport and logistics. More than 250,000 people from all over the world are expected to visit the competitions.

WorldSkills offers a unique opportunity to evolve vocational training standards, encourage innovation and promote professions and skills around the world. The opening ceremony of Worldskills Lyon took place on 10 September. Tuesday saw the start of four days of competition, with a total of 22 hours in which the different tests will take place; Laura Capó will compete with students from 19 different countries, including Colombia, United Arab Emirates, France, India, South Africa, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Hungary, China, Croatia, Brazil, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia and Chile. The closing ceremony and medal ceremony will take place on Sunday, 15 September. Laura will face a total of 16 tests that will take place in different settings: a hospital, a day hospital, a nursing home and a private home. The tests will range from medical support and first aid to the complete recovery of the patient, establishing a trusting relationship with doctors, and helping patients and their families to provide comprehensive care. Laura will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and work closely with patients. She will also need to show a great deal of empathy, an essential quality for managing the most difficult patients.

The Balearic student has the support of the Conselleria d’Educació i Universitats and the entire Govern de les Illes Balears. The Conseller d’Educació i Universitats, Antoni Vera, and the Director General de Formació Professional i Ordenació Educativa, Isabel Salas, will be present at the championship to support her.
