The Consell de Mallorca launches a new edition of ‘Una nit a la Serra’ that will allow primary school pupils to spend a night in the Galatzó refuge

This is a project of the Environmental Education and Environmental Refuges units, aimed at primary schools in Mallorca, which includes transport, a stay at the refuge and the activity ‘The Trades of the Serra: public estate of Galatzó’, an educational action of the environmental education programme, promoted by the international association European Dry Stone Network – REPS.

The vice-president and councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, stated that ‘this type of activity allows us to be in direct contact with nature, which is the best way to learn about and become aware of the importance of preserving and respecting our natural surroundings’.

‘The children who participate in this activity have the opportunity to enjoy the unique experience of spending a night in one of the shelters of the Consell de Mallorca and, at the same time, learn about traditional trades such as marger and carboner, which are part of our cultural heritage’.

The initiative will be carried out during the 2024-2025 academic year, starting in October and lasting until May, with a total of 22 activities planned, organised by class groups. The programme is completely free of charge and includes transport, the stay at the Galatzó refuge, educational activities and lunch and dinner.

Last year, the Department of the Environment organised 12 activities in the island’s network of refuges, in which a total of 473 pupils from schools all over the island took part.

The information is already published on the website of the Consell de Mallorca and, as of this Wednesday, interested schools can now register. Further information: educacioambiental@conselldemallorca.net or 971 173 967 / 971 173 932.
