The Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Hyperlaxity Spectrum Disorder (HSSD), which has just held its first informative conference in the Balearic Islands at the headquarters of the CAEB, attended by the councillor Manuela Garcia and the director general of Pharmacy, Benefits and Consumption, Joan Simonet, encompasses a group of disorders that derive from an affectation of the connective tissue, of genetic and hereditary origin, although it can also occur spontaneously.

The Regional Ministry of Health has granted premises at the Ernest Lluch Centre to the Balearic delegation of the National Association of Ehlers-Danlos and Hyperlaxity Syndrome (ANSEDH)

It has many and varied symptoms and therefore requires the intervention of several medical specialists, including rheumatologists, traumatologists, neurologists, immunologists and digestive specialists, to name but a few, as well as psychologists and psychiatrists to treat the episodes of phobias, anxiety and depression that people affected by it also experience.

According to figures provided by the ANSEDH delegation in the Balearic Islands, there are between 50 and 60 people on the islands diagnosed with or suspected of suffering from this syndrome. For this reason, and so that it can work better and attend to its associates more adequately, the Conselleria de Salud has given it an office, number 212, in the Ernest Lluch centre, which is destined for the service of non-profit organisations such as this one.
