At 6.30 p.m. the day began with the race for the youngest riders and their Minitrot Prize, which went to Il-lusió RV and Arnau Riera.

Then, one minute before 19:00, the most important race was held, the Gran Premio Diada de Mallorca, which had 10,000 euros in prizes and 8 participants.

After an orderly start, from the first turn onwards, the number 4 was the clear leader, keeping the first position for most of the 2,650 metres of the course, even though in the last turn, the other horses began to impose a stronger gear. Even so, the victory was for Guacamole and J. Bauzá who crossed the finish line with a time of 1’15″40. In second position, finally, was Jure De Font with almost the same lap time, 1’15″40. The third place has been for Giant’s Causeway and a time of 1’15″90.

Once the race was over, the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, accompanied by the second vice-president and councillor of Environment, Rural Environment and Sports, Pedro Bestard, and the president of the Institute of Equestrian Sports of Mallorca, Gaspar Oliver, handed over the prize.

The president of the Consell de Mallorca stressed ‘the commitment of this government team to return the world of trotting in Mallorca to the place it deserves. The commitment to the sector is firm, I pledged to recover the splendour lost in the last eight years, and we are fulfilling it’.

‘We have been promoting it from day one, and a clear example of this is the celebration of the Diada de Mallorca Trotting Grand Prix, which took place today, and which is included in the programme of events that the island’s institution has prepared for the Diada de Mallorca, a very important event for all Mallorcans and one of which I feel especially proud,’ said Galmés.

For his part, the second vice-president and councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, thanked all the ‘menadors’ for their participation in this race and highlighted the importance of holding the Diada de Mallorca Trotting Grand Prix because ‘in this way the link that exists between this deeply-rooted sport and the celebration of our Diada is strengthened’.

‘We are also bringing the world of trotting closer to the whole of Mallorcan society, with visits to the facilities of the Son Pardo racecourse and the Manacor racecourse by senior citizens and schoolchildren,’ added the second vice-president.
