President Llorenç Galmés, during the opening of the political year, announced 13 projects ranging from additional lanes to the airport motorway and the ring road, improved connections from the Andratx motorway and new roundabouts.

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, today presided over the start of the political year at the island institution in an event held at the Misericòrdia. Galmés explained that the Consell de Mallorca will invest 164 million euros throughout this legislature in improving access to Palma. 13 projects do not consume territory, except for one, to improve mobility and reduce traffic jams.

The Consell de Mallorca presents a plan to improve access to Palma with an investment of 164 million euros

Some of the projects, such as the accesses to the Can Valero industrial estate and the Jesús road or the second exit from the airport, have already been executed. The improvement of the access to the ring road, with an additional lane on the airport motorway and the reinforcement of the road surface, as already explained, will begin in October. The others are in the project drafting or awarding phase.

In addition to the section I of the second ring road, work which could begin at the beginning of 2027, an additional lane will be built on the ring road between the Inca motorway and the Valldemossa road. Roundabouts will be built and accesses from the urbanisations of Llucmajor and the Son Oms industrial estate will be improved. Likewise, during 2025 it is planned to improve the access from the Andratx motorway to the Via de Cintura. A roundabout will also be built on the Sóller road at the height of the ITV, among others.

President Galmés assured that ‘improving accesses to Palma has been one of our priorities from the very first moment we set foot in the Consell de Mallorca. That is why today we are presenting this plan with an investment of 164 million euros and 13 projects, some of which, such as the second exit from the airport or the access to the Can Valero industrial estate, are already underway and have managed to reduce traffic jams, as we have been able to see these days with the start of the school year.

However, Galmés pointed out that all these actions are being carried out without consuming land, except section I, which is the only major infrastructure to be built and which will also go underground to minimise the impact on the landscape. ‘These are actions that should have been carried out years ago to modernise and improve our infrastructures and that during the terms of office of the left-wing pacts absolutely nothing was done. They left us with more and more traffic jams on the accesses to Palma. We know that this is not the definitive solution, but we will help to minimise the saturation that Mallorcans now suffer’, added the president after detailing the most important actions of the plan for accesses to Palma. In addition, he has once again demanded the 230 million of the road agreement that the central government owes Mallorca.
