15 August and 7 September are days that can be modified by local councils
The session of the Inter-island Trade Advisory Commission, held today with the presence of representatives of the Balearic Islands‘ island councils, trade unions and employers’ associations, unanimously approved the proposed calendar for 2025 for the opening of shops on Sundays and public holidays.

The Government unanimously approves the 2025 calendar for the opening of shops on public holidays and Sundays
The Councillor for Enterprise, Employment and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, explained: ‘This is the first time that the Commission has unanimously approved a proposal for the 2025 calendar for opening on Sundays and public holidays. I would like to congratulate and thank all the representatives of trade unions, employers and associations for their dialogue and for reaching an agreement.
He added: ‘Today we are celebrating this unanimous agreement by all representatives, which benefits the entire trade sector of the Balearic Islands and consumers. We would like to thank the associations, trade unions and employers’ associations for their collaboration and willingness to help. This government is committed to dialogue with all the parties involved and to consensus’.
Thus, the opening calendar includes the following days: 5 January, 1 March, 17 April, 15 August, 7 September, 1 November, 30 November, 6 December, 21 December and 28 December. Two of these days, 15 August and 7 September, are subject to change by the local councils, which they must notify by 15 November 2024.
During the session of the Inter-island Trade Commission, José Antonio Caldés, Director General of Enterprise, the Self-Employed and Trade, congratulated the representatives of the employers’ associations (ASODIB, AFEDECO, CBC, ASCOME) and trade unions (UGT, USO, CCOO, ANGED, PIMECO, PIMEEF, PIMEF) for their ability to reach a consensus on the calendar of Sundays and public holidays for 2025 and encouraged them to continue making progress in improving the competitiveness of the entire commercial sector of the Balearic Islands.
