Seven public congratulations and special mentions and five quality seals for the Police Tutor and Road Safety Education programmes have also been awarded.
The Government of the Balearic Islands, through the Institute of Public Safety of the Balearic Islands (ISPIB), held the awards and decorations ceremony for the local police of Menorca this afternoon, which took place in the plenary hall of the Ciutadella Town Hall. This year a total of 29 awards were presented to the municipalities of Maó, Ciutadella, Alaior, Es Mercadal and Es Castell.

The Government presents 17 Police Merit Crosses with green badges to the local police of Menorca
The ceremony, which coincided with the festivity of San Rafel, patron saint of local police, was presided over by the Councillor for the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, and was attended by mayors Héctor Pons (Maó), Llorenç Ferrer (Ciutadella), José Luis Benejam (Alaior), Joan Manel Pallisser (Es Mercadal), María Dolores Tronch (Sant Lluís), Antònia Camps (Es Migjorn) and Pedro Pons (Ferreries). Also present were the head of the Government’s Department of the Interior, Margalida Ginard; the director of the ISPIB, Vicenç Martorell, and the coordinator of the Tutor Police and Road Safety Education programmes, Rafel Covas, as well as other personalities and representatives of the National Police Force, Guardia Civil and the local police forces of Menorca.
Specifically, 17 police merit crosses with a green badge were awarded, 7 of which went to Maó Town Council, 5 to Ciutadella Town Council, 4 to Alaior Town Council and 1 to Es Mercadal Town Council. The awards were presented by Minister Lafuente and the mayors of the corresponding municipalities.
The Govern also awarded 7 public congratulations and special mentions for the 23/24 school year to the ‘BICIA’T’ projects (4) for their innovative, preventive and social work with the young people of Alaior, to the chief inspector of the Ciutadella Local Police for his promotion and support of the Tutor Police and Road Safety Education service, and to the CEIP Mare de Déu del Toro de Es Mercadal and CEIP Fornells for their contribution, involvement and commitment to the Road Safety Education programme.
Finally, 5 professional quality seals were awarded to the municipalities of Maó, Ciutadella, Alaior, Es Castell and Es Mercadal corresponding to the Road Safety Education and/or Tutor Police programmes organised by the Balearic Government through the ISPIB.
