The Consell de Mallorca’s Department of the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports has presented the 4.2-million-euro restoration project for the old master’s houses on the public estate of Raixa (Bunyola), to be financed by the ITS.

The project aims to promote depersonalisation through the creation of tourism products that can be practised in the low season, as the restoration of these areas will strengthen the tourist attraction of Raixa and attract visitors interested in the island’s history and culture.

It is also planned to create a training centre for the marger trade and to promote the conservation of a craft that is deeply rooted in the Balearic Islands and has already been declared an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by Unesco.

The restoration work focuses on the auxiliary buildings of Raixa, where the oil mill, the oil warehouse, the coach houses and the house of the masters are located, to convert them into a space for different uses and a marger school.

This was stated by the Minister of the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, who explained that this initiative aims to ‘turn Raixa into a benchmark in terms of seasonal tourism, focusing on culture and heritage’.

In this sense, Bestard explained that this initiative ‘will also have a favourable impact on the recovery and rehabilitation of the historical and cultural heritage, as it will enable the preservation of an architectural ensemble of great value that forms part of Mallorca’s history’.

This project has been presented to the Evaluation Commission of the Annual Plan for the Promotion of Sustainable Tourism for the period 2024-2025, as it is considered to be of the utmost importance.
