PortsIB and the Consell Insular de Menorca signed a collaboration agreement for the prevention, and extinction of fires, rescue and civil protection
The agreement establishes a technical collaboration between the Consell Insular de Menorca, through the Fire Prevention, Extinction and Rescue Service (SPEI), and Ports de les Illes Balears, to raise safety levels in these ports. The SPEI will provide a specialised service in fire prevention and extinguishing, civil protection, emergency control and rescue at risk, with attention to all emergencies that may arise in these port facilities. Within its functions, the SPEI will also be in charge of rescue operations, analysis of accidents and participation in drills, ensuring a comprehensive and effective intervention in emergencies.
The Consell Insular will be responsible for maintaining the material resources necessary for these operations. In this sense, the experience of the SPEI firefighters will be used to train Ports IB workers, enabling them to carry out initial fire-fighting operations while the professionals arrive. This approach aims to strengthen response capacity
The funding for developing this agreement will be provided by Ports de les Illes Balears, which will allocate up to 25,000 euros for purchasing various consumable materials necessary for emergency actions, depending on the needs identified by the monitoring committee of the agreement. In addition, an amount of 11,000 euros per year will be allocated, which will be increased by 1,000 euros each year until the end of the agreement. This amount will be used for the provision, maintenance and availability of the services, as well as for the purchase of specific equipment and a training programme for SPEI staff.
