The aim is to promote measures to improve coexistence between residents and the tourist industry and to generate a common, participatory project.
The Consell de Mallorca’s Department of Tourism, through the Fundació Mallorca Turisme, is developing a pioneering project to gain an in-depth understanding of the perceptions and feelings of people linked to the island concerning the current situation.
This initiative seeks to identify the issues that most concern residents and people linked to the island and define how Mallorca should evolve to ensure harmonious coexistence between residents and a thriving tourism industry.

The Consell de Mallorca promotes an innovative project to discover residents’ perceptions of the island
As part of this project, the Councillor for Tourism, Marcial Rodríguez, and the Director of Tourism for Demand and Hospitality, Susanna Sciacovelli, hosted a meeting for the participants, which was attended by 60 of the almost 100 people who have already collaborated with this initiative. At the meeting, the protagonists of this experience were presented with the first results obtained from this collection of information and ‘collective feeling’. This information is being analysed and, together with the effort to reposition the Mallorca brand, will be officially presented in the coming months.
The project, coordinated with the agency Totem Branding through its CEO, Andy Stalman, is part of a process of analysis that looks at Mallorca not only as a tourist destination but also as a brand that projects values both in international markets and among the very citizens who live and coexist on the island.
In each of these meetings, it has been possible to talk about responsible tourism and coexistence, as well as the importance of maintaining the essence of the island to continue being a unique destination, an international reference, and a good place to develop one’s life project.
This approach, based on active listening and deep understanding, will enable the development of a new tourism management strategy rooted in the island’s authenticity.
This experience will allow for an analysis that does not come from a laboratory but from the soul of the people. These meetings have been approached as an opportunity, through the sensitivities of the people, their vast personal and professional experience and their feelings towards the island, to develop a change in tourism management, moving forward based on the criteria already established as a roadmap through the Pledge: coexistence and responsibility to consolidate the ‘Island of Tomorrow’.
Interviews have been conducted with people representing different sectors of Mallorcan society, covering areas such as social, economic, political, artistic, academic and craftsmanship. This material is being processed and will provide an accurate and authentic vision of what the island’s inhabitants and people with vital and professional ties to the island feel and expect for Mallorca to consolidate its position as an excellent place to live and a benchmark destination on a global level.
This project reinforces Consell de Mallorca’s commitment to consolidate itself as a responsible destination and to always move towards a sustainable, balanced future in line with the expectations of both residents and visitors, ensuring a prosperous and lasting coexistence on the island.
Experience as a benchmark
This initiative gives special priority to the experience and emotions of each of the participants, encompassing an integral vision that transcends the professional. The focus has been placed on the richness provided by the different personal and family perspectives and their life trajectories. The diversity of those who took part in the study allows for a deeper understanding of what it means to work, live and coexist in Mallorca, and how each individual perceives the present and future of the island.
This focus on human experiences and personal feelings has been key to capturing the true essence of what Mallorca represents for those who are linked to it. Beyond their professional role or activity within the different sectors, the participants have shared how the island impacts their daily lives, their well-being, and their dreams for the future, both individually and collectively.
By highlighting these personal and emotional perspectives, the project aims for Mallorca to evolve as a place where the prosperity of the tourism industry is balanced with the well-being of the residents. The shared emotions and experiences are at the heart of this effort, as they reflect the genuine feelings of the community and their desire to build a harmonious coexistence on the island.
