Prohens: ‘Rafa Nadal is the greatest sportsman the Balearic Islands and Spain have ever produced’

The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, has welcomed the announcement of Rafa Nadal’s retirement from professional tennis. ‘The greatest sportsman that the Balearic Islands and Spain have ever produced,’ she said.

The Mallorcan tennis player was awarded the Gold Medal of the Government of the Balearic Islands in 2008, and during his professional career, he has won a total of 92 titles, including 22 Grand Slam tournaments, 2 Olympic golds and 5 Davis Cups. ‘We can confidently say that Rafa Nadal is a living legend of national and international sport. It will be tough for anyone to repeat his milestones,’ said the president. ‘We only have words of thanks for everything he has given to these islands and for having allowed us to accompany him throughout his brilliant and incredible career,’ she added.

‘As President of the Government, and on behalf of the Balearic Islands, I would like to thank Rafa Nadal for having made us so proud, for giving us so much joy, for being the way he is and for everything he has given to the Balearic Islands over the years,’ she said.
