Rafel Nadal’s withdrawal statement

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, stated that ‘Rafel Nadal is considered one of the best tennis players in history. His 22 Grand Slams, his two Olympic gold medals and five victories in the Davis Cup make him one of the great champions of this sport, highlighting his dominance on clay (14 Roland Garros) to the point of being known as the ‘king of clay’. Twenty-three years of triumphs, victories and unforgettable moments.

But sporting successes are not the only reason that exalts the figure of Nadal. Galmés stressed that ‘his culture of effort, his tenacity and his spirit of self-improvement make him an example for everyone. His values, his sportsmanship and his humility have earned him the respect and admiration of his rivals, teammates and the general public. An example is the world of sport’.

The president assured that ‘Mallorca could not have a better ambassador than Rafel Nadal. He has carried the flag of Mallorca to every corner of the world, showing his appreciation and respect for the island. Rafel Nadal is a source of pride for this land and our gratitude will be eternal.

Thank you Rafel, Mallorca thanks you.
