The budget increase is due to the Government’s intention to compensate people who will not receive the Ministry’s food card.

The aid is intended for entities that distribute food to other entities, those that distribute it and social canteens.

The Consell de Govern has authorised the Regional Minister for Families and Social Affairs to allocate 1,345,000 euros to the call for applications for aid to entities that develop food guarantee programmes, charged to 0.7% of personal income tax and corporate tax for the year 2024, for actions to be carried out during the years 2024 and 2025.

The payment may be advanced and be 100 % of the amount of the grants.

The increase in the budget for this item, compared to 460,000 in 2023, is due to the Govern’s intention to compensate those vulnerable people who will not receive benefits through the European Social Fund’s Basic Material Assistance Plus (Basic Programme), known as food cards. This is because the Ministry’s criteria establish that this aid is to be distributed to families with dependent minors and with an income of less than 40% of the state average, leaving out many people on the Islands who require this aid.

The distribution of the credit will be made according to the following modalities and criteria:

- Modality 1. Projects for the distribution of food among entities dedicated to the distribution of food.

- Modality 2. Projects for the distribution of food and/or basic necessities to users in one or more municipalities.

- Modality 3. Social canteen projects.
