This afternoon, La Misericòrdia hosts the presentation of the book coinciding with the International Day of the Photobook

The Consell de Mallorca publishes a photobook by the winner of the Premi Mallorca de Fotografía Contemporánea 2023: ‘Veñen corvos voando baixo’ by Tono Arias. La Misericòrdia is hosting the presentation of the book this afternoon (Monday 14th October), coinciding with International Photobook Day.

The photographic exhibition of Tono Arias, winner of the Contemporary Photography Award in 2023, has been available in the exhibition halls of the Aljub this summer and has had great success with visits and reviews. For all these reasons, explained the vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, ‘the Consell de Mallorca, in recognition of the photographer’s artistic work, has published the artist’s winning project in the form of a photobook’.

The artist Tono Arias expressed his gratitude for the recognition of his work by the Consell de Mallorca, in collaboration with the publishing house Ensiola Arts: ‘I am very proud to be able to capture my work in this new format that allows me to reach more people with my critical gaze. Man’s fragility in the face of nature and the drastic changes he is currently facing are made visible in this photobook’.

The publisher Miquel Campaner, of Ensiola Art Edicions, has detailed that ‘the photobook has been printed on four different papers, in colour and in black and white, and contains eighty photographs on eighty pages, softcover and sewn binding, with a limited print run of 550 copies’.

The photo book will travel to the main international photography fairs such as Fiebre, Artslibris and festivals, such as the one held in Arles (France). The presentation of the book will take place this Monday at the Arxiu del So i de la Imatge, located in La Misericòrdia, at 18:30.
