The Consell de Mallorca allocates a new line of aid to the town councils for the cleaning and maintenance of municipal roads

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, expressed his satisfaction ‘for demonstrating, once again, that the island institution is at the side of the town councils, to help them manage their competencies’. ‘In the last assembly of mayors and mayors‘ councillors, we pledged to respond to the demands of the mayors, who asked us for the support of the Consell through the contribution of resources to cover the costs involved in the proper maintenance and cleaning of the network of public roads,’ added the president in this regard.

The Councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, pointed out that ‘we are aware that the management of municipal roads, so that they are in a good state of conservation, implies a very important economic effort for the coffers of many municipalities, which is why we have launched this new line of aid’.

Eligible actions

Thus, those actions on roads included in the municipal catalogue of public roads can be financed. Among the tasks included are the clearing and clearing of bushes, shrubs and undergrowth; clearing of trees that may affect the passability of the public path (including pruning and felling); cleaning of edges; maintenance, conservation and adaptation of the surface of the public path and the controlled elimination of plant waste.

Thus, the local councils will have to present all the expenses they have spent on the cleaning and maintenance of the municipally-owned paths between 1 January 2024 and the date on which the deadline for submitting applications expires. These 200,000 euros will be divided proportionally between the expenditures accredited by each council when applying. The call for applications is open to all the town councils of Mallorca, except for Palma.

This new call for grants is included in the Strategic Subsidy Plan 2024, promoted by the government team, which aims to respond to the needs of the municipalities so that they can offer better services to their residents.
