The UD de Migjorn returns to normal for the first time since 2023, while Es Pla, Artà and Formentera remain on alert
Water reserves in the Balearic Islands remained at 46% during October, a stable level compared to the previous month, but still lower than last year when they were at 54%. Although there are no changes in the alert and pre-alert scenarios, there have been fluctuations in reserves by islands and demand units, which reinforces the need for responsible management of water resources.

Water reserves in the Balearic Islands remain at 46% in October
This month, the Migjorn Demand Unit (DU) has managed to recover the situation of normality, a remarkable fact, as since October 2023 there had not been any territory in this situation. Thus, 15.1% of the territory (UD Migjorn) is now in a normal situation, while 67.1% (UD Menorca, Manacor-Felanitx, Palma-Alcúdia, Tramuntana North, Tramuntana South and Eivissa) remains in pre-alert, and 17.8% (UD Es Pla, Artà and Formentera) remains in an alert situation.
Regarding the evolution of bookings by UD, four units have registered a decrease: Es Pla, Palma-Alcúdia, Tramuntana Norte and Tramuntana Sur, while four other UDs have shown an increase: Menorca, Manacor-Felanitx, Migjorn and Formentera. Two UDs have remained stable: Artà and Eivissa. The general index for the demarcation stands at 0.367, slightly above the previous month, but below last year’s value (0.447) and that of two years ago (0.428).
With regard to the percentages of bookings per island, Mallorca remained at 47%, Menorca increased slightly from 44% to 45%, while Eivissa fell from 33% to 32%. Despite these fluctuations, the overall situation in the Balearic Islands is still lower than it was a year ago.
According to AEMET data, October was wet overall in the Balearic Islands, with an average of 84.1 l/m², above the usual 72.6 l/m². At the island level, Mallorca had a wet month with 96.8 l/m² compared to the normal 77.1 l/m²; Menorca was normal with 62.7 l/m² compared to 62.9 l/m²; Eivissa, on the other hand, had a dry month with only 30.9 l/m² compared to 58.4 l/m²; and Formentera was particularly dry with 22.0 l/m² compared to the usual 43.9 l/m².
In terms of accumulated annual rainfall, the Balearic Islands stand at 85%, with Mallorca at 86%, Menorca at 95% and the Pitiusas at 62%. In terms of temperatures, the month of October was very warm, with an average temperature of 20.4 °C and an anomaly of 1.6 °C above average.
With the current situation, the time of year and the rainfall recorded, it is expected that the reserves may continue to increase during the month of November, with no changes in the scenario expected in the different DU.
