The contracts for ordinary school transport in Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera ended at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

The Consell de Govern already approved a budget item for this activity last April.

Today’s Consell de Govern authorised the councillor of education and universities, Antoni Vera, to contract the school transport service for certain public schools in the Balearic Islands for the 2024-2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years for a maximum of 20,858,417.12 euros (10% VAT included), with the following breakdown: 6.7 million euros for 2025, 8.3 million euros for 2026, and 5.8 million euros for 2027.

It should be remembered that, for the first time, Baccalaureate students are also entitled to free school transport.

Last April, the Regional Ministry of Education authorised expenditure of 39.8 million euros for school transport in public schools, of which 20.4 million euros were contracted. This contract adapted the content to the modification of Decree 20/2023, of 22 May, which regulates school transport in public schools and special education centres supported with public funds in the Balearic Islands, which aims to broaden the range of students entitled to school transport, including high school students and other beneficiaries of this service. For reasons of effectiveness and efficiency, the tender was launched in April with the aim of allowing new users to access the service from the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.

In 2021, the different ordinary school transport contracts were formalised for the islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera, with an initial duration of two school years, which were extended for an additional school year and ended at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
