Through this action, the IBE will replace conventional lighting with LED lights in secondary schools, hospitals and the Illes Balears Velòdrom.
Presence detectors will also be installed where this action is compatible, in order to prevent the lights from operating during non-occupancy hours.
The Regional Ministry of Enterprise, Employment and Energy, through the Balearic Energy Institute (IBE), will invest ten million euros in improving the energy efficiency of interior lighting in buildings of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands (CAIB) and the instrumental sector, including secondary schools and hospitals.
Specifically, this initiative envisages the replacement of conventional lighting with LED lighting, which will reduce electricity consumption and costs. Presence detectors will also be installed in those places where this action is compatible with the existing infrastructures, in order to avoid the operation of the luminaires during non-occupancy hours.

The lighting in the hospitals of Inca, Manacor, Mateu Orfila, Sant Joan de Déu and Formentera will also be replaced. These projects, which will receive a financial allocation of five million euros, are currently undergoing technical review and assessment.
Continuing with these actions, the lighting at the Velòdrom Illes Balears is also scheduled to be replaced in the coming months, with a budget of around one million euros.
This project is part of the Balearic Islands Energy Transition Investments package, within the framework of the European Union-funded Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (NextGenerationEU). The initiative is aimed at accelerating the decarbonisation of the Balearic Islands’ energy mix.
