The 2025 budgets increase the IBDONA budget and a lawyer has been added to the 24-hour service.

The institutional act of 25N has dedicated an act of recognition to entities and organisations of the Balearic Islands for the eradication of male violence.

The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, presided over the Government’s commemorative ceremony on Monday to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Prohens called on society and institutions to continue fighting to eradicate violence against women. ‘We are talking about a fight that is the responsibility of all the administrations and which requires all the means at our disposal,’ she said.
The president stated that we must work with the utmost self-demand, ‘because each new victim is a new collective failure, of the institutions and society as a whole’.

Prohens calls on society and institutions to continue the fight against violence against women

‘We must demand the maximum from ourselves for the protection and safety of all women. Because, without prejudice to recognising the progress and all the committed work carried out by so many professionals involved in this daily fight from the different institutions, you know that I like to speak clearly and it is not my style to fall into complacency’, she said.

For this reason, she called on everyone to continue giving their best in this fight, ‘I encourage you to get involved, to not lower your guard, to never allow their stories to become just numbers and statistics, to put all your experience and professionalism into protecting all women’.

The event, which took place at the Estudi General Lul-lià in Palma, was also attended by the councillor for Families and Social Affairs, Catalina Cirer, and the director of IBDONA, Catalina Salom, among other authorities. Recognition was given to entities and organisations for their fight against male violence. The awards went to the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands; the Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police; the Women and Minors team (EMUME) of the Guardia Civil; 112 of the Directorate General of Emergencies; the Crisis Centres for victims of aggression in the Balearic Islands; the Crisis Centres for victims of violence against women; the National Police and the National Police; the Crisis Centres for victims of sexual aggression of Mallorca and Menorca; the Commission on Violence against Women and Minors of the Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera; and the Casal Petit of the Oblate Sisters for the care of women victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking.

Tribute was also paid in memory of the 40 women victims of gender violence murdered in Spain in 2024, and the manifesto against gender violence was read.

She also called for awareness-raising – this year focused on young people – to avoid normalising and failing to detect sexist behaviour and attitudes that can lead to other forms of sexist violence.

Prohens has conveyed the Government of the Balearic Islands’ maximum commitment, “with all the resources and the transversal work that is carried out by the Government, but especially by the Ministry of Families and Social Services, and especially by the Balearic Institute for Women, IBDONA”.

This year’s budget includes an increase in IBDONA’s budget, and a lawyer has been added to IBDONA’s 24-hour service to be able to advise women on any needs that may arise.

The event is part of the programme of activities for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women organised by IBDONA, which this year has the slogan ‘Respect, equality and human rights. No more violence against women’.
