The event in Sineu offers a wide-ranging programme designed especially for the elderly: dancing, sports activities, musical performances and conferences.
The Consell de Mallorca is organising for the first time the ‘Fira de la Gent Gran: Un dia dedicat a tu’, an event dedicated to the elderly that will be held next Monday, 16th December, in Sineu. The fair, open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, presents a full programme that includes dancing, sports activities, workshops, musical performances and conferences, creating a space for the elderly of Mallorca to meet and have fun. There will also be forty stands from the different associations for the elderly, displaying the handicrafts they have made.

The Consell de Mallorca organises for the first time the Fira de la Gent Gran (Old People’s Fair)
The island’s institution aims to promote health, well-being and active participation. The event will take place in several emblematic spots in Sineu, such as the Plaça des Fossar, Plaça Major, Plaça de Sant Marc, Plaça de s’Era, Santa Maria church and the Town Hall. In these spaces, there will be gymnastics sessions, pilates, partner dancing, sevillanas, dances of the world, stretching, popular games, slingshot shooting and many other activities.
The councillor for the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, stressed that ‘this initiative reaffirms the institution’s commitment to the socio-cultural revitalisation and well-being of the elderly, recognising their fundamental role in society and encouraging their active participation in the island’s cultural and social life’. The councillor added that ‘this event is a unique opportunity for the elderly to enjoy a day full of activities designed especially for them’.
The scheduled activities include conferences given by organisations such as the Official Association of Physiotherapists of the Balearic Islands, the IMAS, the Official Association of Graduates in Physical Education, the Mallorca Fire Brigade, the Official Association of Dieticians-Nutritionists of the Balearic Islands, the UGT Association, SAMU 061 and Emergencias 112. These talks will deal with health, nutrition and safety issues, aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly.
The day will also feature musical performances, with concerts by the choir of the Associació Gent Gran de Montuïri and the Orquestra Gent Gran, as well as a play by the ONCE Foundation. For lovers of tradition and art, there will be neule workshops, an exhibition in the Town Hall and a film screening in the library.
At 3 p.m., there will be a presentation of awards to organisations that work in favour of the elderly, which will end with a surprise musical performance.
