Alternative routes will be provided, as on Sunday and Monday, from 10 pm to 7 am, the access from the motorway coming from Llucmajor will be closed, and on Wednesday and Thursday, the exit to Santanyí will be closed.
The poor state of the asphalt will force the Consell de Mallorca to close traffic on the accesses and exits of the airport for emergency work to improve the deteriorated road surface, which has not been renewed for 40 years. This will take place over four nights, and while the work is being carried out, alternative routes will be established. Specifically, access to Son Santjoan from Llucmajor will be cut off on Sunday the 15th and Monday the 16th, from 10 pm to 7 am. In this case, traffic heading towards the airport will be diverted in the early hours of the morning along the Fondo road from the Coll d’en Rabassa roundabout. On the nights of 17th and 18th December, traffic will be restricted to a single lane on the motorway between the access to the airport and the exit to Palma to carry out the work.

Overnight cuts, starting on Sunday, at the entrance and exit of the airport to improve the deteriorated road surface, which is more than 40 years old
In addition, on Wednesday 18 December and Thursday 19, the airport exit from the motorway in the direction of Santanyí will be closed during the same hours, from 10 pm to 7 am. As an alternative route, traffic will be diverted towards Palma so that they can change direction and take the motorway towards Llucmajor and Santanyí.
Surveys by Consell de Mallorca technicians, during the execution of the fourth lane works on the airport motorway, have detected that the asphalt on the accesses and exits of the airport is in very bad condition, with holes and different sections. At these points in particular, it was found that no action had been taken to renew the road surface for more than 40 years and that the holes that were being created were just being fixed. In view of this result, it was decided to intervene urgently to renew the pavement both at the entrance and exit. The work will be carried out at night and anti-slip asphalt will be laid to ensure the safety of the thousands of vehicles that access Son Santjoan every day.
Work continues at night on the airport motorway and Via de Cintura from Sunday onwards.
On the other hand, the works to reinforce the road surface of the Cintura road and the fourth lane on the airport motorway, announced by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, in September, will continue at night from Sunday onwards, and as in recent weeks the Cintura road will be closed to traffic from 9 pm to 7 am. These works have a budget of 16 million euros. A fourth lane is being built on the airport motorway in the direction of Palma. It will run from the Molinar roundabout to the ring road, a large part of the asphalt on this section will be renewed, and access to the ring road on the same motorway and to the Manacor road will be improved.
In the case of the Via de Cintura, the entire asphalt of the busiest artery in Mallorca will be renewed along 8 kilometres. The work, with the new high quality, non-slip road surface, will also include branch roads and will go as far as the Génova tunnel. It should be remembered that it has been more than 14 years since an improvement of this kind has been made on the Cintura road. This will improve safety and traffic flow. This action will also modify the subway at the Can Blau roundabout, which currently has only two lanes from the airport motorway in the direction of Andratx and will now have three. The aim is to eliminate the traffic funnel that forms at rush hour.
