The Consell de Mallorca presents the Crafts Awards 2024 this Friday at La Misericòrdia
This year, seven categories will reward the exceptional work of artisans and initiatives that highlight craftsmanship as a fundamental part of Mallorcan culture. In addition, the Artisan Trajectory Award, an honorary recognition of the professional career of an artisan with more than 20 years of experience, will also be awarded.
A jury of experts to guarantee excellence
The Crafts Awards 2024 has two specialised juries to ensure quality and fairness in the selection of the winners. The generic jury is responsible for assessing the categories of the Crafts of Mallorca Award, the Crafts Tradition Award, the Crafts Design and Innovation Award, the Crafts Promotion Award, the Crafts Fashion Award and the Impulse Award.
It is made up of Miquel Oliver, director of the Balearic Islands School of Design; Cristina Santandreu, a technician from the Balearic Islands Regional Development Agency; Gregorio Vizcaíno, master craftsman seller; Nina Schinneck, master craftswoman jeweller; Miquel Ramis, master craftsman miller and winner of the Mallorca Crafts Prize 2023; and Francisca Truyol, master craftswoman figurist and siurellera.
In addition, there is a second, more specialised jury, which is responsible for assessing the Artisan Gastronomy Award. Its members, responsible for highlighting culinary traditions and the quality of local produce, were Pep Magraner, president of the Association of Bakers and Confectioners of the Balearic Islands; Joan Llabrés, director general of Agri-food Quality and Local Produce of the Government of the Balearic Islands; Koldo Royo, master artisan chef and president of the Association of Established Cooks in the Balearic Islands (ASCAIB); and Patricia González, artisan herbalist and winner of the Artisan Food Award 2022.
A gala to give prestige to Mallorcan craftsmanship
The vice-president and councillor Antònia Roca stresses the importance of these awards: ‘The Mallorca Crafts Awards are much more than recognition of a job well done; they are a sign of this institution’s commitment to culture, tradition and innovation in the crafts sector. We present these awards with the aim of promoting craftsmanship as a fundamental part of Mallorcan identity’.
The awards gala, which will take place in the emblematic chapel of La Misericòrdia, will bring together artisans, authorities and craft lovers to celebrate an edition that demonstrates the vitality and future of the sector.
