The Consell Insular will renovate the artificial turf of the municipal football pitch in Las Arenas

The Sports Department will provide almost 290,000 euros for the refurbishment.

The Department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sports of the Consell Insular de Menorca will allocate 287,050.87 euros for the renovation of the municipal football field of Las Arenas, located in Fornells. Specifically, this fund will be used to renovate the artificial turf of this sports facility.

The Consell Insular de Menorca and the Ayuntamiento des Mercadal have signed a collaboration agreement to make this possible. For its part, the town council presented a preliminary project for the renovation with a total investment of 363,813.59 euros, with the remaining 76,762.72 euros to be paid for.

The reform of the field in 2005 allowed a boost of sport in Fornells, specifically with the activity promoted by the CF Norteño, and since its renovation has had an intensive use for sportsmen of federated and non-federated level for athletes from Fornells and Es Mercadal, as well as other places in Menorca.

‘That is why the Las Arenas pitch needs a complete replacement of the artificial turf. It has been many years since the turf was last changed and it is currently in a deteriorated state. It needs to be renovated to guarantee the quality of football practice, as the current state puts the physical integrity of the footballers at risk. From the Consell Insular, we are committed to the restructuring and improvement of sports facilities on the island, and we make this clear once again with this extraordinary contribution,’ says the president of the Consell Insular de Menorca, Adolfo Vilafranca.

The Town Council will assume the role of promoter of the actions and as such will be the entity in charge of planning, drafting and executing the work and renovation projects framed in the object of the agreement, as well as of carrying out the technical monitoring of the corresponding actions.
