The specialised classes will continue in 2025
The training programme, which began in March 2024, will run until 31 March 2026.
The Balearic Islands Employment Service (SOIB), part of the Regional Ministry of Enterprise, Employment and Energy, has promoted the training of 370 people (139 unemployed and 231 employed) through the 2024-2026 on-the-job training calls for the employed and unemployed, to train professional drivers for both passenger transport services (buses) and goods transport, highly specialised jobs that are in demand on the islands due to the current lack of professionals.

Successful SOIB training programme with 370 drivers trained in 2024
The training programme, which began in March 2024, will continue until 31 March 2026. This initiative was prepared with the Balearic Transport Business Federation (FEBT).
It is a profession with a demanding accreditation and also represents a considerable economic challenge for those interested due to the associated costs. In this regard, the regional secretary for Labour, Employment and Social Dialogue, Catalina Cabrer, remarked: ‘We have responded to a demand from the sector, which has been a success in record time. We are working to match the demand for SOIB training with the needs of the labour market.
In addition, he added: ‘With this training, we are facilitating access to jobs that are difficult to fill, such as professional drivers’.
For her part, Petra Mut of the FEBT said: ‘When this government just arrived, we asked them for this type of training, and in record time, they have been able to get a line of aid where the results show the acceptance and the help they are giving to the sector’.
The objective is to finance training aimed at unemployed and employed workers with the aim, on the one hand, of improving professional skills, employability and meeting the needs of companies. And, on the other hand, to offer training adjusted to the needs of the labour market, which meets the productivity and competitiveness requirements of companies.
The following driving schools have participated in these calls: Muévete Formación, Autoescuela Vivero and Perelló in Mallorca; and Centro de Formación Botella & Mediterránea in Ibiza.
