Games are a good opportunity to transmit values that represent equality and reject discrimination and violence

Given the traditional purchase of toys for children, typical of this time of year, the Institut Balear de la Dona, (IBDONA) recommends choosing toys that promote the abilities and skills of children, as well as those that encourage cooperation between them, develop creativity and reflect the diversity of people. On the other hand, IBDONA advises against toys (including video games) that promote stereotyped gender roles or any other type of role, or that have an implicit use that promotes violence in any of its forms.

IBDONA also reminds us that the colours of toys do not have to define whether they are intended for a girl or a boy. On the other hand, it should also be borne in mind that the fact of receiving a greater number of toys does not increase the emotional well-being of the recipient in proportion.

IBDONA considers that the gift of toys is a good opportunity for the transmission, from adults to children and young people, of values that represent equality and reject discrimination and violence.
