The University Quality Assurance Agency of the Balearic Islands (AQUIB) has achieved a key recognition for the international projection of the Balearic Islands university system: the incorporation into the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR). The EQAR decision was taken after analysing the report issued by the panel of experts of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). The experts visited the AQUIB in April, meeting with the agency’s staff, the Rector and Vice-Rectors of the UIB, the Catalan Minister for Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, and the Director General for Universities, Research and Higher Artistic Education, Sebastià Massanet.

This recognition attests to the fact that the AQUIB acts by the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), recognising the international prestige of the agency and its assessments. The ESG are the framework for quality assurance in higher education at the European level, and compliance with it provides the basis for increased trust and recognition between higher education systems in different European countries.

In addition, registration in EQAR will mean that AQUIB will be able to carry out the accreditation and assessment of university teaching staff, institutional accreditation, the assessment of university degrees and the monitoring of results and reports in the university field.

This success results from an intense process that has required more than 5 years of work on the part of AQUIB, with the continuous support of the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities. This milestone is a recognition of AQUIB’s rigour and collective commitment to strengthening the quality of the university system in the Balearic Islands.
