The Eivissa Island Council has given final approval to the project to improve road safety on the road through Sant Francesc de ses Salines, which has been promoted by the Eivissa Island Council’s Road Infrastructures department with a planned budget of 200,000 euros.
This project, which includes a pedestrian route, a raised pedestrian crossing, a narrowing of the roadway to reduce traffic speed, new lighting and new bus stops, responds to the requests made by residents to the department’s councillor, Mariano Juan, given the high accident rate in this area, especially in the summer months when traffic intensity increases, as it is a road leading to the Ses Salines Natural Park, with access to the beach and commercial and leisure establishments. ‘We are responding to a historical claim of the residents of this stretch that suffer traffic problems and that, from the Consell, we have tried to mitigate while this project was approved with measures such as the request to the DGT to install a radar to reduce the speed that has already been operational this summer,’ recalled the Consell.

Juan explained that this is a ‘small but very important and complex project in its processing’, as it has required reports from the Coastal Demarcation of the Balearic Islands, the Insular Commission for Territorial Planning, Urban Planning and Historical and Artistic Heritage (CIOTUPHA) and the Directorate General of Natural Spaces and Biodiversity of the Ministry of Environment of the Government, due to its location in an area of high environmental and heritage value.
The councillor pointed out that this project is one of three planned for this year in the road network of the municipality of Sant Josep, in addition to the east roundabout at the access to Sant Josep, and the asphalting of the Es Cubells road (these two projects have already been put out to tender).
‘We continue with our agenda of investments and projects in the island’s road network and all the municipalities of the island, and we are confident that we will bid for and start the works in San Francisco during 2025,’ Juan concluded.
