It will be an exciting task, it is an honour and a source of pride, an immense responsibility. Together, we can do a good job. Investment in Mallorca’s firefighters
During this legislature the Consell de Mallorca has strengthened its commitment to the Fire Service of Mallorca, with the renovation and improvement of the infrastructure, the vehicle fleet and the equipment of the Emergency Service.
A few weeks ago the Consell de Mallorca announced the start of the process to incorporate a helicopter for the service, a long-standing demand of the island’s emergency service, which is very necessary for the development of its work. The helicopter will be used mainly for mountain rescues, forest fires and traffic accidents.
The island institution is also working on a general fire brigade infrastructure plan to modernise the facilities of the existing fire stations and to provide them with the necessary resources, both in terms of vehicles and equipment. The complete refurbishment of the Manacor fire station is in its final phase, the construction of the Santanyí fire station has already begun and the service will be regrouped in the future headquarters in Marratxí.
The Mallorca Fire Department has modernised its vehicle fleet with two new vehicles, two light urban pumps (highly versatile units designed to intervene in urban fires and traffic accident rescues) that are more efficient and technologically advanced, complementing the fire brigade’s current fleet and providing the force with better tools to deal with any emergency.
On the other hand, the Insular Directorate of Emergencies has completely renewed the protective uniforms used by the Firefighters of Mallorca during firefighting operations in confined spaces. The equipment is designed with multiple layers, providing the full protection required for firefighters in structural fire situations.
The Mallorca Fire Department has eight fire stations throughout the island (Alcúdia, Artà, Calvià, Felanitx, Inca, Llucmajor, Manacor and Sóller), as well as a headquarters. They have a staff of 284 people and serve all the municipalities of Mallorca except Palma.
