The environmental body of the Government of the Balearic Islands has closed the integrated environmental authorisation procedure relating to the project to build a laying hen and rearing farm in the municipality of Sineu. This decision was taken based on a report of non-urban compatibility issued by the Sineu Town Council.

The procedure that regulates the integrated environmental authorisation foresees that if the town planning report is negative, regardless of when it was issued, and always before the granting of the integrated environmental authorisation, the competent body to grant it, in this case, the Directorate General for Town Planning Harmonisation and Environmental Assessment of the Regional Ministry of Housing, Territory and Mobility, will issue a resolution terminating the procedure and archiving the proceedings. This resolution was notified to the promoter of the project on 19 December.

This project, together with the environmental document, has been submitted to the public information period and the affected administrations have been consulted. Nearly 1,500 allegations have been received (a total of 1,453 allegations from residents of various municipalities, and 15 from associations and political groups) and unfavourable reports from various general directorates of the Government (the Directorate General of Natural Environment and Forest Management; the Directorate General of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development; the Directorate General of Circular Economy, Energy Transition and Climate Change, and the Directorate General of Public Health), as well as from the Consell de Mallorca and the GOB (Government of the Balearic Islands).

The Government closes the integrated environmental authorisation procedure for the project of a hen farm in Sineu

This is a project for the construction of a laying hen and rearing farm on the Son Vanrell estate, in the municipality of Sineu, in a rustic setting in the Pla de Mallorca, just over a kilometre from the town of Sineu, and was calculated for the rearing of 750,000 hens on the farm itself and the processing of products from a further 220,000 hens from other farms, with the construction of nine sheds planned, among other aspects.
