\ Last year, with two calls for applications, 7,563 users were reached.
\ It is worth highlighting the increase in the number of applications submitted, a total of 12,462.
\ A resolution has been made to increase the allocation to attend the admitted applications that have not received aid now.
Once the Evaluation Commission for the Dining Room Grants for the 2021/22 academic year has been held. After evaluating the applications submitted, a total of 8,204 grants have been awarded, compared to 7,563 last year. This represents an increase of 641 students receiving aid for this academic year compared to last year. Of this total, 3,999 will be students from subsidized schools and 4,186 from public schools. The aid reaches public and subsidized centers and 0-3 centers.
Of the total of granted aids 8,186 are for socioeconomic reasons and 18 for transport.
By islands, in Mallorca 7,391 aids will be granted compared to 6,762 last year, in Menorca 413 aids compared to 428 last year, in Ibiza 356 aids compared to 342 and in Formentera 25 aids compared to 31.
This year, there has been a strong increase in the number of applications, more than 2 thousand more than in the previous year. A total of 12,585 applications have been submitted, of which 10,210 have been admitted. Last year, 10,127 applications were submitted between the two calls. Of the total number of applications accepted this year, 8,204 grants have been awarded until the planned budget of 7 million euros has been exhausted, maintaining the highest amount ever allocated to canteen grants.
“It is clear that the extraordinary situation we are experiencing due to the pandemic has a lot to do with this significant increase in applications” explained Amanda Fernandez, general director of Early Childhood, Innovation and Educational Community. “Despite allocating a very high budget, the same as last year, in which we had to make two calls during the course, it has not been enough to meet all applications entitled to receive aid, so we have launched a procedure that will expand the allocation and in a few months will be able to give aid to those who are now entitled and have not received.”
The procedure has already been set in motion which allows the current award to be a partial concession and the budget to be increased by close to 1 million more to be able to attend to the 2,006 applications admitted but which have not been granted.
Fernandez wanted to emphasize that “we are giving more aid than ever with the highest budget that has been allocated in the Balearic Islands in this concept and with the planned expansion we will be close to 8 million euros”.
It should be noted that the grants have been awarded to applications with higher scores, i.e. they have received more than 15 points and therefore have the highest contributions: 770 euros (15 to 19 points) and 880 euros (20 or more points).
Currently in the Balearic Islands there are 185 public centers with canteen service, of which 149 are in Mallorca, 13 in Menorca and 23 in Ibiza and Formentera.
The dining room subsidies are intended to grant aid to students who, due to their family economic situation, unfavorable socio-family circumstances or difficulties of displacement in the school center, have more difficulties to afford the payment of this service.
These aids are aimed at students of public and subsidized centers, as well as students of first cycle centers of infant education of the public or complementary network who are users of the canteen service during the 2021-22 school year.
The amount of the aid has been calculated based on the average price of the annual cost of the canteens managed by the Department of Education and Vocational Training and it must be taken into account that in no case may the amount of the aid exceed the cost of the canteen service:
a) Direct beneficiaries:
- 80% of the average cost of the dining room (880 euros).
b) For socioeconomic reasons:
- 20 or more points: 80% of the average cost of the canteen (880 euros).
- From 15 to 19 points: 70% of the average cost of the canteen (770 euros)
- From 10 to 14 points: 50% of the average cost of the dining room (550 euros)
- From 5 to 9 points: 25% of the average cost of the dining room (275 euros).
