The Directorate-General for Food Sovereignty Policies of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is taking part from Monday 7 February until Wednesday 9 February in the 5th edition of the HORECA Balearic Islands in Mallorca fair, which is being held at the Illes Balears Velodrome from 11 am to 7 pm, and which returns after last year’s break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some thirty local produce companies from the Balearic Islands will be present, offering tastings and samplings of the products on display

According to the councillor, Mae de la Concha, “this is an opportunity to show the hotel, catering and restaurant sector once again the strength and great variety of local produce we have on the islands”. “The pandemic demonstrated the great importance of the HORECA channel in providing an outlet for a large part of local production, and that is why it is so important for us that this fair is held again and that the sector is back to working at 100%”, he explained.
It is an outdoor stand, measuring 80 square metres, which the council is presenting under the slogan ‘Quatre illes per assaborir’ (Four islands to produce). The stand consists of six counters, five of which are dedicated to the companies, associations and organisations taking part in the fair. In total, the Regional Ministry has made 30 exhibition shifts available (one in the morning and one in the afternoon for each of the five stands). The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has reserved an information area which will offer information and brochures every day of the fair on the wide variety of food and agriculture products on offer from those companies, cooperatives and organisations which will not be present at the fair.
The following entities will be represented: DO Binissalem (Bodega Santa Catarina and Bodega Can Ramis), DO Pla i Llevant, Vi de la Terra de Mallorca, Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de las Islas Baleares (Cooperativa de Porreres, Cooperativa Bessoner, Cooperativa de Artà, Cooperativa Grupo Pastores and Cooperativa de Sant Antoni de Portmany), Som Pagesos de Mallorca (Agroilla, Agromallorca, Es Merca and Terracor), IGP Almendra de Mallorca, DO Oli de Mallorca, DO Mahón-Menorca Cheese (Quesos La Payesa and Quesos Sa Roqueta de Menorca), APAEMA (Es Garrover de Mallorca, Granola sense nom, Eco Ayreflor, Marçal Ribas, Cooperativa de Pagesos Ecológicos de Mallorca, Aceite Novembre, Magarawbar and Va de Bio), IGP Sobrasada de Mallorca, IGP Ensaimada de Mallorca and the association of Bakers and Confectioners with Pa d’aquí, and Agromallorca SAT.
The criterion for participation in this fair is to present a differentiated product and that, at the same time, the companies are grouped together in a representative body. One of the requirements is also to offer tastings and samplings of the products on display. Thus, there will be tastings of wines, sobrasada, cheeses, ensaimadas, Ibizan almonds and Mallorcan almonds, ramellet tomato products, apricot preserves from Porreres, jams and biscuits from Artà and gató de garrova, among others.
