Science and Innovation Week kicks off with nearly 300 activities.

The Ministry of Science and Innovation is celebrating the 22nd edition of Science and Innovation Week, which kicks off with more than 300 science dissemination activities for the general public, which will take place throughout the month of November in different parts of Spain.

The Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, stressed that the aim of this initiative, which has become consolidated in all the Autonomous Regions as the largest social communication event for science in Spain, is to bring research and innovation closer to society and, in particular, to young people.

To this end, workshops, exhibitions, guided tours, round tables and scientific routes will be organised, in which specialists from all areas of knowledge will participate to show the plurality of research work and its important contribution to society.

The CSIC will take part in more than 250 free face-to-face and virtual activities to be held in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castile and Leon, Catalonia, Valencia, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, Murcia and Valencia.

The programme includes open days, guided tours, virtual exhibitions, conferences, science fairs and routes, gymkhanas, workshops, escape rooms and board games. Specifically, the activities on the International Year of Glass, basic sciences for sustainable development or 2022 as the Ramón y Cajal Research Year stand out.

Activities of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT)
The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) will organise various initiatives such as the presentation of the first results of Office C, which impartially and independently prepares reports for Congress that reflect the scientific and technical consensus on issues of interest to Members of Parliament.

It will also present C Week, a matchmaking programme aimed at fostering the exchange of knowledge between professionals from the scientific world and Members of Congress.

In addition, he will hold the colloquium ‘Illustrating Science, from Cajal to the James Webb Space Telescope, present the new phase of the SINC Agency for scientific news and hold various activities at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Alcobendas and A Coruña.

Activities of the Carlos III Institute of Health (ISCIII)
For its part, the Carlos III Institute of Health (ISCIII) will once again join Science Week to encourage society to get closer to the scientific world with activities aimed mainly at primary and secondary school students.

These include an escape room based on studies to improve sleep, dissemination activities on the immune system at the National Microbiology Centre, an improvisation theatre at the Biomedical Research Network Centre and a visit to the ISCIII’s Majadahonda Campus.

The ISCIII will also hold workshops at the ISCIII animal facility, the National Microbiology Centre and the National Cardiovascular Research Centre, as well as visits to the National Environmental Health Centre and the National Cancer Research Centre.

Activities of the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT) and the Spanish Research Agency (AEI).

The Energy, Environmental and Technological Research Centre (CIEMAT) programme also includes a meeting between young people and researchers from different disciplines to present career options in engineering, biology, chemistry and physics, among others.

There will also be guided tours of the CIEMAT’s facilities, laboratories and fusion devices, an event at which women’s role models in science and technology will be discussed, and a talk on new technologies for the genetic treatment of diseases.

For its part, the State Research Agency (AEI) will be organising an activity on research careers, with emphasis on the Ramón y Cajal programme, and a round table discussion with people at different stages of their research careers.
