A total of 3,064 bachelor’s and master’s degree students have applied for the Govern de les Illes Balears’ aid for the return of their enrolment fees, either for a full subsidy for the first enrolment fee or for a 50% reduction in the cost of the second enrolment fees for the 2022-23 academic year. The deadline for submitting applications was 2 December at 23.59 hours.

The administrative services of the University will proceed in the coming weeks to review the applications, both in terms of compliance with the requirements and the required documentation. The award decision and the return of the grants will be made in batches. It is expected that the first batch of grants will be issued before the end of the year and that the money will be paid out by the end of January 2023.

The grants are part of the policy of scholarships and study grants of the “Amb tu” plan of the Government of the Balearic Islands to help families in the Balearic Islands in the current economic and social situation. The aim is to reimburse 100% of the first enrolment fees for undergraduate and qualifying master’s degrees, as well as a 50% reduction in the cost of the second enrolment fees for this academic year at the University of the Balearic Islands.

The amount of the aid will vary according to the number of credits enrolled, up to a maximum amount of 1,800 euros per student and course. There are general, economic and academic requirements to obtain the return of the enrolment fee. The general requirements include: being enrolled at the UIB in official bachelor’s or qualifying master’s degree courses during the 2022-23 academic year and requesting the grant for the first bachelor’s or qualifying master’s degree that the applicant is taking. The qualifying master’s degrees are exclusively those of Industrial Engineering, General Health Psychology, Law, the University Master’s Degree in Teacher Training and the Master’s Degree in Agronomic Engineering.

This aid is incompatible for the first enrolments with the general grant of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. On the other hand, students enrolled in affiliated schools, mobility students from other universities, extraordinary enrolment students or those studying at the University themselves are excluded from this call for applications.

As for the financial requirements, students must declare a household income of less than 52,800 euros in the joint declaration or less than 33,000 euros in the individual declaration.

Finally, in terms of academic requirements, in order to qualify for the enrolment grant, students must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits; exceptionally, students enrolled for fewer credits and who complete their studies may also apply for the grant.
