Eliminate the VAO BUS lane
This morning the first extraordinary Consell Executiu of the new government team of the Consell de Mallorca was held. The eight councillors met for the first time, led by the president of the island institution, Llorenç Galmés.
The primary measure agreed upon by the Consell Executiu is the request for a meeting with the government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Aina Calvo, and with the Directorate General of Traffic to eliminate the BUS VAO lane. Galmés explained that it is a state competence but that “we don’t want to waste a minute and we will ask for this meeting to get to work immediately”. In this way, Galmés sets in motion one of the main commitments of the Government Agreements for Mallorca.
The other agreed decision is to commission technical studies to establish a speed limit on the Ma-20, the ring road, thus eliminating the maximum speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour. The president of the Consell has recalled that until now “the number of fatal accidents has increased” and that, therefore, “it is a failed measure”. With the abolition of the 80 kilometres per hour limit, the aim is to restore traffic flow.
