The councillor for Environmental Management of the Eivissa Island Council, Ignacio José Andrés, has presented the campaign ‘At Christmas, not everything goes!’ which, coinciding with the Christmas season, the department is launching to raise awareness among the citizens of Eivissa about the need to consume sustainably and generate less waste. From the beginning of December until the end of this week, the island’s five municipalities have had information tents where environmental technicians have provided information and advice on how to adopt more sustainable and environmentally conscious habits.

Campaign to raise awareness of responsible and sustainable consumption

Some of the recommendations are, for example, when shopping, to avoid plastics by buying in bulk, using laundry bags or wheelbarrows, as well as reusable bags. Likewise, this campaign also emphasises the importance, especially at this time of year, of consuming responsibly and opting for second-hand objects, “consumption and waste generation increase considerably during the Christmas holidays “and waste generation is one of the most obvious manifestations of our current consumption model, based on using and throwing away with a more responsible consumption, we manage to generate less waste”, said the councillor for Environmental Management. Andrés pointed out that “we still have a long way to go to meet the targets set by current regulations”, which is why this campaign will once again remind us how to separate waste properly to encourage recycling of the different fractions and reduce the volume of non-recoverable waste that is thrown into the Ca na Putxa landfill.
