Bus ridership is up 15.47% over 2019

Public bus transport on the island of Eivissa has broken a record number of passengers in 2023 with a total of 6,615,981 trips that have been made on any of the 71 lines that make up the current transport system and that will remain in force until the final awarding of the new service, which is currently in the bidding phase.

Compared to other fiscal years, 2023 has surpassed by 13.69% in 2018 in which, until now, it held the absolute record of passengers, which amounted to 5.82 million. It also exceeds by 15.47% the 5.73 million trips made in 2019, the last reference year given the negative influence that the COVID-19 pandemic had on 2020, 2021 and 2022.

This increase is due to two factors: the progressive improvements, which despite having a service with an expired contract, have been made in recent years, and the free service that the Consell d’Eivissa applied in a pioneering way from 2022 and will continue in 2024, as already foreseen in the island budgets.

Regarding the improvements, 6,672 passengers have used line 50B, which since July 2023 links all the park-and-ride parking lots in the city of Eivissa with the city centre, substantially improving the service that lines 50 had been providing until now. In addition, this modification of the line has allowed the 50, which until now stopped operating in es Puig den Valls in the afternoons and summer evenings, to operate in the Eulariense parish until midnight, causing an increase of 22% in the number of users, from 52,698 in 2019 to 64,292 in 2023. Also positively valued is the circular line designed for the residents of Dalt Vila (the 45C) in its two months of operation exceeded 300 passengers.

Also important has been the consolidation of line 17, created in 2019, known as ‘Eulàriabus’, which in 2023 had 38,311 users. Likewise, line 10Express, which came into operation in 2020 and substantially reduces the number of stops between the centre of Ibiza town and the airport, is fully consolidated and in 2023 has added 109,512 passengers, which added to the 723,451 passengers who have used this past year line 10, represent an increase of 13.77% compared to the 732,151 users who used the L10 in 2019.
