The Arxiu del Regne de Mallorca, an entity dependent on the Conselleria de Turisme, Cultura i Esports del Govern de les Illes Balears, will screen in the next three weeks the films La Sombra de la ley, Blocao -shot entirely in Mallorca and with Mallorcan actors- and Belle Epoque, winner of an Oscar. This is the culmination of the cycle Entre dos segles (1898-1931), which began in 2023 on the 125th anniversary of the ‘Disaster’ of 1898 and the centenary of the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, which ended shortly before the arrival of the Second Republic. All sessions are at 7 pm at the headquarters of the Arxiu, Ramon Llull Street, 3, in Palma, with free admission.

The Mallorcan actor Pep Tosar is one of the protagonists of La Sombra de la ley, Dani de la Torre’s 2018 film, which will be screened on Thursday, January 11 and also features Luis Tosar, Michelle Jenner, Manolo Solo, Paco Tous and Ernesto Alterio. The film is set in Barcelona in the 1920s, dominated by conflict and confrontation between trade unionists and employers.

Blocao, which can be seen on Thursday 18, is a feature film by the Mallorcan Pere March, from 2003, which narrates the misadventures of a group of soldiers from the island in the war in Morocco, in the same decade. It was shot on location in Pollença and Artà and has a script by Joan Guasp and March himself and the participation of Mallorcan actors such as Pere Pau Sancho, Mateu Fiol, Mar Forteza, Joan Carles Bestard, Simó Andreu and Manel Barceló, some of whom will attend the screening.

Finally, Belle Epoque, set at the time of the arrival of the Second Republic, will be presented on Thursday 25. It was directed in 1992 by Fernando Trueba with the collaboration of his brother David, both regulars in Mallorca, starring Penélope Cruz, Fernando Fernán Gómez, Ariadna Gil, Maribel Verdú, Gabino Diego and Jorge Sanz.
