Successful participation in the Shop Window Contest

More than 500 stores of the part forana have participated in the Christmas Shop Window Contest, Special Reyes Magos, which has promoted the Consell de Mallorca, in collaboration with the two trade associations of the Balearic Islands, AFEDECO and PIMECO, to boost sales in the Mallorcan trade.

The winners have received gift vouchers of 1,000, 500 and 250 € to consume in local commerce because, in this way, one of the objectives of this campaign is fulfilled, which is to promote the circular economy and the Mallorcan trade.

Winning businesses

The first prize of 1,000 euros went to Art I Vases, an establishment in Artà dedicated to the sale of frames, mouldings and material for the painter. Its shop window displayed a nativity scene in which its figurines reproduced movements. The farmer, the baker, the shepherd and so many different trades symbolize any day of the time. The owner of the store, Bernat Mayol, said that the tradition comes from his childhood when he used to collect moss with his parents for the nativity scene. All the decorations are self-made, “I collect microwave motors from Punto Verde and adapt them to give movement to the figurines”.

The second prize, consisting of a 500 euro voucher, went to Imprenta Muro. The decoration of its shop window was based on the image of the town: the bell tower of the Church of San Juan Bautista, the Tramuntana mountain range and the silhouette of the town’s houses. As Antonio Campaner, owner of this establishment, tells us, “The whole decoration has been made with recycled material, with the cardboard boxes that we receive with the orders”. This printing shop, located in the municipality of Muro, has a wide range of office supplies, school supplies and gift items.

The last of the awards, worth 250 euros, has come to Manacor. Specifically to the store Neumoix Manacor run by Carmen Rosselló and Sandra Servera. Its window, which consisted of the figure of the three wise men, has been made with cardboard boxes of baby strollers, as this store sells childcare products and is a store that stands out for being ecological and environmentally friendly.

The Councilor for Economic Promotion and Local Development has highlighted the unprecedented success of this campaign and has advanced that is working on new proposals to support trade in Mallorca in which will be actively with employers “because they are the ones who know firsthand the needs of the sector”.

“From the Consell de Mallorca we are committed to traditional trade and local products and these actions bring us closer to those who every morning raise the shutters of their businesses to offer the best product to their customers,” added Pilar Amate.

This campaign has been carried out only in the part forana. Palma has been excluded because it already has a specific campaign to support trade promoted by the City Council. For the next edition it has been set as a goal to double the number of establishments this year and expand the prizes.
