The Balearic Islands will be taking part in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) to be held in Madrid from 24 to 28 January. The aim will be to position the Culture and Sports offer in the national market as part of the new tourism strategy launched by the Balearic Islands Government.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, through the Tourism Strategy Agency (AETIB), has been charged with coordinating the entire participation in this fair, an event in which Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera will be present, with their stand measuring 1,000 m2.

This is the same stand from the last edition of Fitur 2023, which won the award for best “sustainable stand”. A design that has been adapted to this new edition, but which is still inspired by the Posidonia Oceanica, with a firm commitment to sustainability, both in its materials and in the entire construction process, and which also seeks to be a functional and useful space for all the trade fair activity that takes place there.

Along with each of the islands, 14 town councils from Mallorca and 8 from Menorca will be present at the Balearic Islands stand at FITUR, as well as a total of 9 private co-exhibitors (Barceló Hotel Group, Son Bunyola, Eulen, Menorca Lines, Europlayas, EE Car Rental, Hotetec, Roig Drive Mallorca and Affiliated). There will also be five radio booths from which different local radio stations will be broadcasting live on these days.

Likewise, as is customary at tourism fairs, the AETIB has set up a table reservation system at the stand so that the tourism sector attending the fair can hold work meetings in an organised manner. This system has been previously communicated to tourism companies so that they can use it to schedule their appointments.

As part of its commitment to training as a fundamental part of its tourism strategy, the Balearic Islands stand at Fitur will also offer a bar service at certain times of the day, which will be staffed by students from the Balearic Islands Hotel and Catering School (EHIB).

Activities at the stand

During the days of the fair, various presentations and activities will be held at the Balearic Islands stand.

On Wednesday 24 January, at noon, the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, and the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Jaume Bauzà, will present the new tourism strategies of the Balearic Islands to the media.

On the same day, as part of the strategy for positioning the Culture and Sports product, the directors general of Sports and Culture, Joan Antoni Ramonell and Ricarda Vicens, respectively, will take part in the presentation of sporting events such as the Championship ATP 250 tennis tournament and the Ironman 70.3 in Alcúdia, as well as other cultural events such as the Atlántida Film Festival and the presentation of the work “Paisaje Sensible” by Amparo Sard.

On Thursday the 25th of January, at 11:00 am, the island councils of Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera will present their main tourism innovations for the year 2024.

In addition, on the 24th, 25th and 26th of January, the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment has organised wine and olive oil tastings, with prior reservation required, to promote local products and highlight the PDOs and PGIs of the Balearic Islands.

During the weekend, when the fair is open to the general public, there are various activities scheduled, such as painting workshops for children, as well as Ball Pagés performances by the group “Els Pastorells” from Formentera and the performance of the piece ‘Paisaje Sensible’ by the artist Amparo Sard.
