Concha Zaforteza will be the new deputy director of Care and Assistance

The director general of the Health Service of the Balearic Islands, Javier Ureña, has appointed Concha Zaforteza as the new deputy director of Healthcare.

Zaforteza has extensive clinical experience as a care nurse and manager in intensive care units and emergency services. She has worked as Director of Nursing at the Hospital Comarcal de Inca between 2015 and 2023. She was Nursing Supervisor at the Hospital de Manacor (1997-2001) and collaborated in its opening. She also participated in the creation of the hospitalisation units when the Son Llàtzer University Hospital was opened.

Concha Zaforteza

She has a degree in Nursing from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and a degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology. She also holds a PhD in Nursing and International Health.

In the field of teaching and research, she has been a lecturer in the Faculty and Department of Nursing and Physiotherapy (University of the Balearic Islands) between 2001 and 2015. She has taught subjects of the degree in Nursing and degree in Medicine related to the acquisition of clinical skills in nursing care to the adult person and health services management. She has also taught qualitative research methodology subjects, both in the Nursing degree and in the Master’s degree. She has participated in numerous conferences, in several research projects and is the author of more than thirty scientific articles.

Concha Zaforteza is a founding member and president of the Asociación Acción Enfermera. She is also a founding member of the HUCI Project, whose objective is the humanisation of healthcare. She has been a member of the Governing Board of the Official College of Nurses of the Balearic Islands (COIBA) between 2010 and 2015 and vice-president during the last half of 2023.
