The administrative process of allegations for the change of the Diada de Mallorca

Last December 14, the change of date of the Diada from December 31 to September 12 was initially approved. In the plenary, the Councilor of Presidency, Antoni Fuster, recalled that “for 19 years, from 1997 to 2016, there was an almost unanimous consensus to set the date on September 12 until the PSOE changed the vote”.
This process of public exposure, to know both positive and negative opinions on the new date, has ended. Two allegations have been registered: one by the PSOE and the other by the OCB.

However, the Popular Party has presented more than 2,400 citizen signatures to show their support for the celebration of the Diada de Mallorca on September 12.

Participatory processes

First, the insular institution asked about this decision to the 53 town councils with a letter from the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés.

In this procedure, a response was obtained from 30 municipalities, 28 of which approved the change of date, representing 80% of the Mallorcan population.
Also, three reports from experts in the history of Mallorca concluded that September 12 was the most appropriate day to celebrate the Diada: because it was when King Jaume II swore the Charter of Privilegis i Franqueses and so as not to tarnish the December 31 feast of the City of Palma, one of the oldest civil holidays in Europe.
