The legal language advice service is launched

On Friday 12 January, at the headquarters of the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB), the new actions that will be carried out throughout the year 2024 in the framework of the campaign “Justice, also in Catalan” were presented, with the participation of the president of the TSJIB, Carlos Gómez, representatives of the different professional associations, the management of the Ministry of Justice and the Obra Cultural Balear, and with the support of the Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB).

Among the actions that were presented, it was announced that a free language consultancy service is currently being set up, aimed at both justice administration staff and the different professional associations and legal operators.

This language advisory service offers assistance in resolving doubts and queries about the language, translations into Catalan and corrections of short texts, information on courses and specific training, compilation of regulations, and specific language tools and resources.

The requests will be sent to the e-mail address justiciaencatala@iebalearics.org and a linguistic adviser of the IEB will respond, in order of receipt, to the queries and doubts that arrive.

Llorenç Perelló, director of the IEB, points out that “offering this language advisory service is only one of the actions that will be carried out during this legislature to respond to the demands of the administration of justice and legal operators”. Perelló adds: “We at the IEB will continue to work on the actions of the campaign with the aim of making further progress in one of the sectors in which we currently find many opportunities for improvement in the use of the Catalan language”.
