The government signs a collaboration agreement with the Dominican Republic

As part of the FITUR tourism fair, the President of the Government of the Dominican Republic, Margalida Prohens, and the Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, signed a framework agreement on tourism training. Thus, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports and the Government of the Dominican Republic will promote collaboration in the promotion and implementation of activities in the areas of training, research, technological development, innovation and knowledge transfer, as well as technical support, dissemination and institutional cooperation in the field of tourism. All of this is expected to result in innovations with economic and social impact based on tourism knowledge.

The collaboration will cover activities related to three strategic areas: research, education and training; tourism culture and knowledge transfer; and institutional projection and communication.

In the first, joint training programs will be carried out between the School of Hotel Management of the Balearic Islands (EHIB) and different Dominican educational centres, and initiatives will be promoted that will promote the development of tourism culture and the transfer of knowledge, as well as institutional projection and communication.

On the other hand, the Government of the Balearic Islands will make available to the Dominican Republic its extensive knowledge of tourism legislation, sector management and modernization of supply, through lines of action that contribute to public-private collaboration policies. Projects to identify areas for improvement and design a strategy for monitoring, evaluating and consolidating effective measures to improve the tourism supply also have a place in this regard.

As regards institutional projection, both governments consider it important to consolidate the present collaboration and to expand the communication and dissemination of the activities carried out jointly.

This agreement is open to other organizations of both governments that may be interested in the collaboration activities, as well as other public and private entities interested in promoting these objectives.

The management of these relations will be carried out through a Joint Follow-up Commission that will meet at least twice a year.

The event was attended by representatives of the main hotel and business groups, such as Garden, BQ Hotels, W2Meet, Palladium Hotel Group, Sampol, Hosteltur and Grupo Piñero.
