TUI

First contact with the tour operator TUI at the gates of the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) in Berlin. The President of the Government, Marga Prohens met with the CEO of TUI, Sebastian Ebel, the head of communication, Thomas Ellerbeck and the head of markets of the company, David Schelp. Also present were the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, the Director General of Tourism, Josep Aloy, as well as representatives of island councils and municipalities.

The company has valued the strategy of the Govern to position the islands towards a quality tourism and beyond season, and the commitment to sustainability, and has transferred to the politicians the optimistic prospects for 2024.

Prohens pointed out the need to “create an ecosystem for tourists to get to know the island beyond their hotel, through major sporting and cultural events, such as the Mallorca Live Festival or the Palma Marathon Mallorca”.

One of the central themes of the meeting was TUI’s commitment to sustainability, “which is completely aligned with the vision towards which the Government wants to move”. An example is the project to change the fleet of vehicles (cars and buses) to 100% electric.

On behalf of the Government, Prohens stated that the islands want to be “pioneers in decarbonization and be a green pole of attraction”.
