Agriculture, Fisheries and Food announces the 15th Excellence in Innovation Awards

The Ministry is thus showing its commitment to policies that promote gender equality, encourage young women’s access to agricultural activity and foster economic diversification in rural areas, as well as helping to halt the depopulation of rural areas.

These prizes are awarded in four categories: Excellence in innovation in agricultural activity, in fishing or aquaculture, in the diversification of economic activity in rural areas and in communication. Three initiatives will be awarded in each of these categories, with first, second and third prizes of 18,000, 12,000 and 7,500 euros respectively.

In addition, an extraordinary honorary prize will be awarded for ‘Special recognition for the trajectory linked to the support of women in rural areas and rural fishing areas’.

The deadline for submitting nominations is 8 April.

The MAPA has been awarding these prizes annually since 2010, with the aim of highlighting the work and life projects of women in rural areas, as well as the essential work they carry out to maintain and revitalise these territories, through the recognition of innovative projects and actions carried out by them.

The ‘Excellence in Innovation in Agricultural Activity’ and ‘Excellence in Innovation in aquaculture and Fishing Activity’ awards will recognise the best projects that use agricultural, livestock or forestry technologies or, in the latter case, fishing, aquaculture and other complementary technologies in the fishing sector that result in the advancement of a sustainable activity, efficient in obtaining quality products and that at the same time respond to consumer demand and integrate marketing and promotion strategies.

The ‘Excellence in innovation in the diversification of economic activity in rural areas’ award recognises the best projects which, in addition to promoting economic activity in rural areas, are linked to the agri-food industry, the provision of services to agriculture and forestry, social integration and tourism activities which promote new economic areas or generate employment in rural areas.

The ‘Excellence in Communication’ award recognises the best work in this field that has contributed to disseminating the activities of women in rural areas or in rural fishing areas.

Finally, the ‘Special recognition for the trajectory linked to the support of women in the rural environment and in rural fishing areas’ is extraordinary and is aimed at those women or entities that have played an outstanding role in the support, promotion and enhancement of women in these areas.
