Applications can be submitted from 13 March to 5 April 2024, both inclusive.

The Regional Ministry of Education and Universities has earmarked €560,000 to fund activities aimed at sixth-year primary and fourth-year ESO students in the Balearic Islands to improve their oral proficiency in English, French and German. The four initiatives will enable pupils to be trained completely free of charge.

This action, 100% subsidised by the Conselleria, will allow at least 324 students to improve their oral proficiency in foreign languages this summer.

For the third consecutive year, in addition to English, immersion programmes in French and German will be offered, and the call for ESO students, specifically in the fourth year, to also improve their linguistic competence in the second foreign language has been consolidated.

In the case of stays abroad, the grants in kind are to cover travel to and from the course site and transfers from the airport to the accommodation and from the accommodation to the airport in the host country, transport in the host country, the costs of accompanying tutors, accompanying activities, accommodation, full board and lodging, teaching materials and insurance. Stays will take place between 1 July and 31 August 2024.

A maximum amount of EUR 560,000 is earmarked to provide at least 324 in-kind grants to participate in one of the following four foreign language immersion programmes:

The number of grants in kind for this modality will be at least 134 grants, distributed by islands as follows: 106 for Mallorca, 12 for Menorca and 16 for Eivissa and Formentera.
Intensive French language immersion course abroad (France) lasting 2 weeks, with a total of 45-50 teaching hours, aimed at students who in the 2023-2024 school year are enrolled in the fourth year of ESO in publicly funded schools in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. Course: Improve your English in summer, lasting 10 school days (Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.), with a total of 50 hours of training, including academic and recreational activities, aimed at students who in the 2023-2024 school year are enrolled in the sixth year of primary education in publicly funded schools in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The number of grants in kind for this modality will be at least 150, distributed by islands as follows: 112 for Mallorca, 18 for Menorca and 20 for Eivissa and Formentera.

Participation requirements

In the case of secondary school stays abroad, students must have been enrolled at a publicly funded educational centre in the Balearic Islands, have studied 4th ESO during the 2023-2024 academic year, have studied and passed the English, French or German language in each case and not have benefited from this programme in the previous academic year. Only one of the three modalities can be chosen, with no possibility of subsequent modification.

In the case of the primary school summer course, the student must also have been enrolled in a publicly funded school in the Balearic Islands during the 2023-24 academic year, must have studied and passed the English language and must not have been a beneficiary of any aid from this programme in the previous academic year. You can only apply for one of the locations offered without the possibility of subsequent modification.

Interested parties must submit an application electronically through the website or in person at the official registers.

Criteria for selection

To select the beneficiary applicants for all modalities, the applications from each island will be sorted in alphabetical order (from A to Z) from the first lineage, followed by the second lineage and the name of the applicant. Once the applications have been sorted, each will be assigned a consecutive number and a number will be drawn using a digital platform. From this number onwards, the grants in kind will be awarded to the following numbers in consecutive order until the places offered are filled.

The deadline for submitting applications is 13 March to 5 April 2024 inclusive.

All information relating to this call (resolution and editable annexes) is available for consultation on the website of the Directorate General for Educational Planning and Management and at the electronic headquarters.
