A 100-square-metre stand financed by the Regional Ministry will host a major exhibition of Balearic agri-food products. In addition, in collaboration with ASCAIB, tastings and culinary demonstrations have been organised during the four days of the fair being held in Barcelona.
The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment, through the Directorate-General for Agri-food Quality and Local Produce, is supporting the producers and companies of agricultural and agri-food products that will be taking part in the next edition of Alimentaria&Hostelco, the leading international business platform for food, beverages, food service and catering equipment, which will be held from 18 to 21 March in Barcelona.

In this sense, a stand of one hundred square metres has been acquired and designed, which will be located in Hall 1 of the Gran Vía exhibition centre at Feria de Barcelona under the slogan Four Islands to savour, where you can find companies and products such as oil from the DOP Aceite de Mallorca; wine from the DOP Binissalem; Mahón-Menorca PDO cheese, with producers such as Torralba and COINGA; products from the PGI Almonds of Mallorca, from Camp Mallorquín and Fet a Sóller; Xoriguer from Gin de Mahón; the company Dos Perellons, which is bringing Herbas de Mallorca and Palo de Mallorca to the fair; the Cooperativa de Formentera; Flor de Sal products (Mallorca) and Salinas de la Concepción (Menorca).

The Directorate-General for Agri-Food Quality and Local Produce is contributing 60,000 euros so that local produce from the Balearic Islands can be present at the fair. In this sense, Director General Joan Llabrés explained that in this edition, which will open next Monday, “we have doubled the space for exhibitors and also the number of operators compared to other years. The agri-food industry means economic diversification and adding value to our agriculture”. In addition, a series of tastings and culinary demonstrations have also been organised in collaboration with the Association of Balearic Chefs (ASCAIB).

Thus, on the first day of the fair, the chef José Cortés will prepare a bombeta rice dish from Sa Pobla with almond milk infused with Mimaterra and the IGP Almond of Mallorca; the young chefs José María Borrás and Pau Sintes will do a tasting of DOP Mahón-Menorca cheese; the DO Binissalem will be tasting 100% Prensal Blanco 2023 wine; Cata Pons will be cooking a ‘Pulled Xot’ with organic Mallorcan lamb while Miquel Serra will be offering potato coca with carob flour and roasted porsella with PDO Mallorcan oil and Flor de Sal des Trenc. The demonstrations on this first day will end with a Mallorcan-style vegetable cake with PDO Mallorcan olive oil and sardines in vinegar, by Marga Brunet.

In addition to the companies and products that are travelling to Barcelona with the support of the Conselleria, there will also be other stands of their own, such as IGP Sobrassada de Mallorca; Mallorca Distilery; Mega Raw Bar; Marí Mayans; Mas Crespo, Quely and the Santo Cristo bakery.

According to the organisers of Alimentaria, a total of 100,000 professional visitors are expected to attend the four-day fair, thus reaffirming its leadership as the main platform for promoting business, internationalisation and networking.
