Arxiu d’Imatge i So

The Arxiu d’Imatge i So de Menorca has recently joined the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport’s Hispania digital heritage access portal.

The Servei de Patrimoni Documental i Biblioteques del Consell Insular de Menorca and the Arxiu d’Imatge i So itself, assessed the need to incorporate into Hispania the part of the digital catalogue that complied with the characteristics of licenses of use required by the portal. This corresponds to more than 60,000 records.

This incorporation offers, in addition to identifying and locating part of the audiovisual collection of the Arxiu, the possibility of increasing the visibility and access to the documents. It is also a way of giving visibility to the Arxiu and its work with the photographic and audiovisual documentary collections of Menorca beyond our island.

Hispania is the portal that brings together the digital collections of archives, libraries, museums and other Spanish entities, offering access to their digitised materials and objects (manuscripts, books, parchments, photographs, maps…). The portal aims to provide access to Spanish cultural and scientific heritage that has been digitised.

Hispania includes 256 digital repositories (collections) and more than 12,000,000 records.

The entry into Hispania opens up the possibility of extending the dissemination even further, with the almost simultaneous incorporation into Europeana, the portal of digitised European cultural heritage. At present, the Arxiu d’Imatge i So is about to join the Europeana portal.

On 6 and 7 March, the first Hispania Technical Seminar was held in Getafe (Madrid), where the Arxiu d’Imatge i So was present to keep up to date with the functioning, dissemination possibilities and technical characteristics that must be taken into account in order to offer a good service through the two portals, Hispania and Europeana.
