The AETIB will allocate a maximum budget of 1,678,940 euros while the FMT will contribute 500,000 euros for the 2023-2024 season and another 500,000 euros for the 2024-2025 season.

The Government of the Balearic Islands, through the Balearic Islands Tourism Strategy Agency (AETIB), and the Consell de Mallorca, through the Fundació Mallorca Turisme (FMT), have today signed an agreement to jointly sponsor RCD Mallorca. This action is part of the tourism promotion policy of both the Balearic Government and the Consell de Mallorca and takes advantage of the international exposure offered by the sponsorship of a top team in the first division of the Spanish football league.

Govern and Consell de Mallorca agree on a joint sponsorship with RCD Mallorca

The sponsorship will have a budget of 2.6 million euros, of which the AETIB will contribute a maximum of 1,678,940 euros and the rest will be provided by the FMT, with a first allocation of 500,000 euros for the 2023-2024 season and a second, also of 500,000 euros, for the 2024-2025 season.

With this agreement, the Balearic Islands as a whole and individually will have a presence on the clothing of RCD Mallorca, a team that competes in the first division of Spanish football and will play in the final of the Copa del Rey this season.

The sponsorship with RCD Mallorca will constitute an indirect tourism promotion strategy for the Balearic Islands as a whole as a destination because it will have an impact on a global audience of more than 128 million people, spread over more than 20 countries. It should also be noted that this club will generate more than 1,000,000 impacts annually in terms of audience in countries of strategic interest for our community, such as the USA, Japan, Mexico and other European markets.

Taking these and other data into account, the Councillor for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Jaume Bauzà, considers that this type of sponsorship by public administrations is of general interest for the Balearic Islands: “The possibility of attracting sports tourism through this sponsorship fits in perfectly with the Government’s tourism strategy and to promote sports tourism and cultural tourism”, he assures.

For its part, the Consell de Mallorca considers that actions such as this are an important showcase for the construction of the Mallorca brand because they boost the worldwide visibility of the destination and its idiosyncrasies, and are also a powerful communication channel. In this sense, an agreement of these characteristics will bring to light the local product of Mallorca and its business fabric, and will contribute to fostering a pride of belonging, as the club’s social mass is undoubtedly representative of Mallorcan society.

Furthermore, in the words of the island’s councillor for tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, the agreement will also serve to “project the image that both the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Consell de Mallorca want to promote, both internally and externally, with coexistence as a purpose and with the protection and regeneration of the qualities that make the Balearic Islands a wonderful place to live in, both for permanent and temporary residents”.
