President Galmés congratulates the Easter holidays
Galmés wanted to highlight the great work they do and their professionalism and conveyed his best wishes for the holidays. “Today I wanted to personally congratulate the Bombers de Mallorca for the Easter holidays, as they watch over the safety of the entire population while Mallorcans celebrate these special dates. I would like to thank them for their dedication and professionalism 365 days a year because they carry out exceptional work. I would also like to emphasise that during this term of office, the Consell de Mallorca is working to improve the facilities, equipment and working conditions of the island’s firefighters,” said the president. President Galmés was accompanied on the visit by the Minister of Finance and Public Function, Rafel Bosch, and the island’s Director of Emergencies, Joan Fornàs.
During this legislature, the Consell de Mallorca has strengthened its commitment to the Bombers de Mallorca, with the renovation and improvement of the infrastructure, vehicles and equipment of the emergency service.
The island institution is already working on a general firefighter infrastructure plan to improve the facilities of the existing fire stations and provide them with the necessary resources, both in terms of vehicles and equipment. The complete refurbishment of the Manacor fire station is in its final phase, the project for the new Santanyí fire station has already been approved and the service will be regrouped in the future headquarters in Marratxí.
On the one hand, the Bombers de Mallorca have modernised their fleet with two new vehicles, two light urban pumps (highly versatile units designed to intervene in urban fires and traffic accident rescues) that are more efficient and technological, complementing the firefighters’ current fleet and providing them with better tools to deal with any emergency.
In addition, the island’s Emergency Department has completely renewed the protective uniforms used by the Bombers de Mallorca during firefighting operations in confined spaces. This equipment is designed with multiple layers that provide the complete protection required by firefighters in structural fire situations.
In addition, the Bombers de Mallorca have made a firm commitment to continuous training and specialisation of the corps. In 2023 they reached a record number of training activities, with 156 exercises in one year. Almost 200 members of the corps have received this training, involving more than 900 hours.
The Bombers have also launched various information campaigns on social networks to prevent and raise public awareness on different issues, such as poisoning and fires in homes, fires in personal mobility vehicles and safety when lighting bonfires or taking part in correfocs.
